About Us

Our Story

We believe true beauty lies in the elements—inviting you to pause, connect, and experience the untamed spirit where the bush meets the sea.

Towans was born from a lifetime spent at the water's edge. I grew up by the sea in Cornwall, UK, where the word Towan means sand dune—the place that shaped many years of my life. Decades later, life brought me to New Zealand’s rugged West Coast, where I found that same raw coastal energy. In Te Reo Māori, the word for sand dune is Tāhuna. Discovering this shared meaning connected the circle of my different lives, grounding my past in my new home.

Towans is a celebration of this connection. We bring the pure, clean energy of our wild coastal waters and native forests straight to your table.

How We Make It

Our process is a masterclass in artisan patience. Unlike salts harvested from stagnant, shallow bays, Towans is drawn directly from deep, active coastal currents. This continuous ocean washing ensures exceptional natural purity and a crisp flavor profile.

Every batch is 100% hand-harvested and naturally solar-evaporated to retain essential trace minerals. No additives, no shortcuts—just honest, unrefined salt in its truest form.

The Tāhuna Range & Beyond

Our journey didn't stop at the shoreline. Looking to the pristine mountain forests framing our coast, we created Tāhuna—our collection of native forest botanicals, born where the bush meets the sea. By sustainably wild-harvesting Kawakawa and Horopito, we have crafted a fiery, aromatic alternative to traditional pepper that honors the land it comes from. Alongside our signature salts and dual-barrel aged creations, every product is small-batch milled to preserve its vibrant, native depth.

Thank you for being part of the Towans journey.
